In NRW, up to 2,000 charging stations for electric cars are to be built at 200 public buildings. According to the state's responsible Construction and Property Management company (BLB), about half of the charging stations will be accessible to everyone. They are to be installed among other places in front of police stations, government offices, or prisons.

According to BLB, for example, 20 charging points will be installed at the regional and district court in Düsseldorf, ten at the Wuppertal-Ronsdorf prison, 100 at the TU Dortmund, six at the Bottrop tax office, and four in front of the police headquarters in Herford. BLB Managing Director Dirk Behle told the German Press Agency: "With the expansion offensive for charging infrastructure, we are actively supporting the path to more sustainable and climate-friendly mobility."

Currently, a service provider is being sought across Europe to build and operate the charging stations. According to its own statements, the BLB has already set up e-charging stations at many state authorities - but these were previously only intended for company vehicles.
