For us, it’s more under "also-rans" – in Norway, it's a hit: Toyota's bZ4X! In October 2024, it outpaced the Skoda Enyaq with 757 units and Tesla's Model 3 with 696 new registrations!

Combustion engines no longer play a role

Combustion engines practically no longer play a role in Norway: of 11,552 passenger cars registered in October, 10,862 were electric cars. This corresponds to a share of 94.03 percent. The first hybrid ranks 23rd!

But even in Norway, price is important as most vehicles are electric mid-sized SUVs that ideally cost less than 500,000 kroner, which is approximately 43,000 euros. Up to that amount, you drive significantly cheaper tax-wise since the 25 percent VAT is waived. Interesting: The bZ4X is the third cheapest Toyota in Norway (as of 21.11.2024) after the Yaris and Yaris Cross – it costs from 432,600 kroner, which is 37,419.90 euros (!) – in Germany it starts at 42,900 euros.

These are the 20 best-selling cars in Norway:

Toyota bZ4X:                 761

Skoda Enyaq:                757

Tesla Model 3:                696

Tesla Model Y:                645

VW ID.4/Nissan Ariya:    642

Ford Explorer                  458

VW ID.7:                         444

Volvo EX30:                   381

VW ID.3:                         366

Audi Q6 e-tron:              325

Audi Q4 e-tron:              297

Porsche Macan:             294

Volvo EX40:                   260

Hyundai Kona:              248

BMW i4:                        205

BMW iX1:                     179

Xpeng G6:                   164

BYD Seal U:               153

Nio EL6:                      141

In terms of brands, VW is now leading in Norway with a 13.1 percent market share, Tesla is still in second place with 11.7 percent, followed by Toyota with 8.8 percent and Skoda with 7.6 percent. In fifth and sixth place are Volvo with 6.3 percent and Nissan with 6.1 percent. The top ten are completed by BMW (6.0 percent), Audi (5.7 percent), Ford (5.1 percent), and Mercedes-Benz (4.0 percent).

So far, partially as expected, but: The bZ4X is very much "me too" in Germany and stands out mainly due to long charging times. However, in Norway, Toyota has a huge fan base! And people have been waiting a long time for the brand's first electric vehicle. Since the bZ4X is also super solid and attractively priced, it finally drew many "waiters" to the Toyota dealership.

What does that mean?

Different countries, different customs: In Norway, Toyota has a completely different standing compared to many other EU countries, heavily influenced by the tough Landcruiser and Hilux. This is why the bZ4X, as the third cheapest(!!!) Toyota, ranks high on the podium. Remarkable too are the successes of Porsche and Ford, but on a very low level.
