At the annual launch, NIU CEO Yan Li not only introduced new electric bicycles for the Chinese market but also the fully electric Kick Scooter. This is set to complement the European market as an intelligent mobility solution for urban areas starting from this summer and is intended for regular trips ranging from one to five kilometers. This way, NIU fills a gap within its own segment; the existing product range already successfully covers longer distances and mobility forms.
Conquering the Last Mile
To now penetrate the "last mile" segment, a dedicated research unit was established with the task of developing new micromobility vehicles that are intended to cover global markets and customer needs.
"Part of our vision is to redefine urban mobility, and by adding Kick Scooters to our product family, we are fulfilling our commitment to our customers and fans worldwide to offer them an affordable mobility solution they can be proud to own and rely on for their daily commute," explains CEO Yan Li.
Two Versions in Six Colors
The scooter will be available in two versions locally: a Pro and a Sport version, priced at 699 euros and 599 euros respectively; both models reach a top speed of 20 km/h. According to the manufacturer, the Kick Scooter is weather-resistant and equipped with brake lights, LED front lights, and dual-drive brake discs. NIU highlights the robust suspension combined with the foldable frame as the UCP, designed to make the driving experience and transport as user-friendly as possible. The Pro and Sport editions differ as follows:
- The NIU Kick Scooter Pro has a range of 50 kilometers with a 7.5-hour battery charge and is powered by a 350 W motor and a 486 Wh lithium-ion battery pack.
- The NIU Kick Scooter Sport has a range of 40 kilometers with a 5.5-hour battery charge and is powered by a 300 W motor and a 365 Wh lithium-ion battery pack.
Both models will be available for online pre-order starting June 2021 in six colors, with delivery expected one month later according to the company. Global sales will commence through over 1,000 NIU dealers and flagship stores starting August 2021.
