The world's leading manufacturer of electric scooters, NIU from China, according to its own statements, has unveiled the MQi GT, an evolution of the existing NIU M-Series, designed to meet sportier demands. The e-moto-scooter is equipped with two replaceable lithium-ion batteries that power a 3,000-watt Bosch motor. Additionally, the company has stepped up in terms of safety, space, and connectivity. As a base, the GT features a more robust and larger frame.

"We have found the perfect balance to offer tall people sufficient space and comfort without compromising on agility and range," says founder and CEO Yan Li.

Additionally, the new frame, which now offers a seat height of 81.6 cm, and the especially grippy 14-inch tires are expected to increase the safety and stability of the e-scooter. The GT can carry up to 269 kg of additional weight, with a moderate curb weight of 115 kg, including batteries, and is still supposed to be just as agile to ride as the lighter original model. The Bosch motor offers a maximum torque of 45 Nm (at 655 min -1) and accelerates swiftly from 0 to 70 km/h. The NIU Energy lithium batteries are expected to provide a range of 70 to 80 km, are easily removable at 11 kilograms each with 31 Ah, and can be charged individually in four hours or together in 4.5 hours using household electricity. The fourth generation of the battery is also supposed to be more durable.

Electronic Braking System with Regeneration

Technologically, the scooter features a digital dashboard and an electronic braking system (EBS) that, when paired with the hydraulic disc brakes, generates electricity, increasing the scooter's range by up to 6 percent. Additionally, sensors automatically control the LED headlights. Three smart driving modes offer customizable driving pleasure, and a turn signal assistant aids in turning.

"What makes our e-scooters so special is that the driving experience extends to the phone. Our customers analyze their own driving behavior with the NIU app, view their trips, plan their routes, check the battery status, and receive regular updates 'over the air'," promotes Yan Li.

Moreover, the scooter is equipped with various sensors that also send information to the phone, warning, for example, of wear and tear. The Smart Connectivity Technology is designed to protect the scooter against theft, allowing the location to be tracked via smartphone. Additionally, the scooter sends push notifications directly to the phone if it is moved without authorization.

Two Variants in Five Colors

As usual, the choice is between the version limited to a top speed of 45 km/h for vehicle category L1e-B and the version that reaches up to 70 km/h for category L3eA1. The available colors are white, silver, blue, red, and black. Price-wise, the NIU GT starts at a reasonable 3,999 euros for the base package. Additionally, the manufacturer points to local funding opportunities for light e-mobility. In Munich, for example, buyers are supported with 25 percent of the net purchase price or up to a maximum amount of 1,000 euros, according to the provider.
