Next.e.GO Mobile has signed an agreement to build another "microfactory" in Lovech, Bulgaria, modeled after the one in Aachen. The new facility is to be a "cyber-physical twin" of the factory in Aachen - the first fully connected microfactory in the BEV industry, using the Industry 4.0-based Internet of Production concept.

140 Million Euro Investment

140 million euros are to be invested for this. As in Aachen, the production is expected to be fully connected, integrating many local suppliers – which could also bring prices down to a more affordable level.

The Bulgarian plant is planned to have a capacity of up to 30,000 vehicles per year, with the start of production planned for the first quarter of 2024. The factory is expected to create up to 1,000 new jobs in the region. The planned production in Bulgaria is part of the company's decentralized, global growth strategy, which is based on this production technology and a modular and scalable microfactory concept.

In addition to the ongoing factory in Aachen and the planned facility in Bulgaria, e.GO had already announced that it would replicate its microfactories in Greece and Mexico. The e.GO Life Next is already being sold in Germany. In 2022, the company plans to introduce the next generation of the e.GO Life and its models, including the e.GO Life Cross.

What does this mean?

Through multiple factories, e.GO aims to reach a (ideally six-figure) total volume more quickly and to advance internationalization. It remains to be seen whether and how well this plan will succeed, especially since the company is primarily operating in regions that are not typically known for their own car brands or large-scale vehicle production.
