New Mercedes eSprinter starts from 59,990 euros - and with three batteries

With a modular battery pack, more range, efficiency, faster charging technology, and a more flexible package, the electrified classic is finally set to receive a power boost, available as both a chassis and a minibus.

Mercedes-Benz has started taking orders for the new eSprinter, which is set to hit the market in the spring. The conventional Sprinter models with diesel engines are also coming with new features. The base of the eSprinter now features a 56 kWh battery (previously 47 kWh) and a more efficient 100-kW synchronous electric motor (previously 85 kW) in the rear axle, starting like the more compact eVito with the Base Special Model from 59,990 euros net. With significantly increased standard equipment compared to its predecessor, the Swabians aim to offer a "price-equivalent transition," they claim. The base version comes with a leasing rate of 690 euros per month.

Above this is the version with an 81 kWh battery, which will come a bit later, and the top eSprinter with a large 113 kWh battery and a more efficient 150-kW synchronous motor, also available at launch. This model is expected to achieve a maximum range of 440 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, and even 530 kilometers in the WLTP City. The manufacturer relies on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) storage, which is free of critical and rare cobalt and nickel.

Front Module with Components and Rear Module with E-Motor

The manufacturer has not only improved performance and efficiency compared to the less efficient predecessor driven by an asynchronous front motor but also upgraded the charging technology. In addition to the AC charger, there is now a 115-kW DC fast charger, which should charge the 56 kWh version from 15 to 80 percent in 28 minutes. For the 113 kWh version, it takes 42 minutes. Naturally, the manufacturer offers access to 1,150 public charging stations through its own charging service, me Charge, including its own Charging Hubs, the first of which was recently opened in Mannheim. There will also be a B2B charging solution.

Better Thermal Management and Recuperation

Improved thermal management and enhanced recuperation, which can be modulated in multiple stages behind the steering wheel, are also intended to contribute to better efficiency. As with the eVito, there is also a "DAuto" program that processes the information from the radar, camera, and navigation to enable predictive driving. Additionally, an Eco-Assist provides the driver with information on speed limits, inclines, and when to take their foot off the accelerator pedal.

Unlike the previous model, which was available only as a panel van with 11 cubic meters of cargo space and a total weight of up to 3.5 tons based on the front-wheel-drive Sprinter, the update now comes in all variants, from a panel van with up to 14 cubic meters, to flatbeds and crew cabs, as well as a chassis suitable for different body types or a mini-bus tourer, thanks to the separation of the front module with high-voltage components and the rear module with the drive. This also allows for total weights of up to 4.25 tons and towing capacities of up to two tons (previously not available).

More Driver Assistance Systems as Standard

On board are advanced driver assistance systems, most of which will be installed as standard. For example, the active brake assistant now includes an intersection function and responds up to 60 km/h to vehicles crossing perpendicularly or up to 70 km/h to oncoming vehicles with a warning, and up to 40 km/h or when turning with an emergency brake. Also standard are the rain sensor, headlight assistant, active lane keep assist, blind spot warning, fatigue warning, an intelligent cruise control including navigation data, as well as a reverse camera in the van and tourer models. New is also a start warning. Standard with N2 approval but otherwise an option is the turning assistant, which detects pedestrians and cyclists. Naturally, there is a parking package with a 360-degree camera and a digital interior mirror.

Infotainment and Telematics Become Standard

In terms of infotainment, the faster, sharper 10.25-inch MBUX system with better voice recognition and vehicle-adapted navigation is now always on board, along with a rearview camera and a new multifunction steering wheel. Via MBUX, the eSprinter is also integrated into electric-specific services such as navigation with range management, pre-climatization, and charging settings. Telematic connectivity is provided by an on-board modem in conjunction with a Mercedes me account, which unlocks various digital services, such as remote functions like window or door locking and unlocking, or accident and breakdown management. Optionally, an uptime system for preventive maintenance via real-time vehicle data diagnostics, similar to trucks, is available. LED lights are available as an option.
