Munro pulls it off: Indeed, the Scots have already managed to secure around 200 pre-orders for their new pick-up, which follows the enclosed off-roader. It is intended for industries such as mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense to achieve upcoming decarbonization targets without performance loss. Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson is pleased:

"With full order books for two years for the MK_1 Pick-Up and the MK_1 Truck, Munro needs to accelerate the search for larger premises to meet customer demand."

The spacious and easy-to-load cargo area of the Munro MK_1 Pick-Up accommodates a Euro pallet with a payload of 1050 kg, while the performance model offers a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kg for effortless transport of any type of load, from agricultural machinery and livestock to construction equipment and disaster relief supplies.

The peak output is 375 hp / 280 kW combined with 700 Nm of torque, accelerating the Munro MK_1 Pick-Up to 60 miles per hour in just 4.9 seconds. A 220 kW electric motor and a choice of utility and range variants are also offered. According to Munro, charging the 82.4-kWh battery from 15 to 80% is to be done in just 36 minutes with a 100-kW DC charger.

With a fully charged battery, the MK_1 has a range of over 190 miles (well over 305 kilometers) and can operate off-road for up to 16 hours on a single battery charge. In reality, this will likely be around 200 plus or minus x miles - depending on the terrain and the load.

Thought and built in Scotland - for decades of use

The Munro is designed, developed, and manufactured in the United Kingdom and is the first light vehicle to be produced in Scotland in over four decades. Peterson explains:

"We launched Munro to fill the significant gap for an electrically powered, four-wheel-drive, utility workhorse. Our vehicles are developed and constructed without compromise based on new principles and are not constrained by existing architectures. The result is a robust construction that allows for decades of use and ultimate capability for any type of terrain."

Peterson is pleased and adds:

"The positive feedback we have received from media and customers who have tested the MK_1 Truck has been unprecedented, and the response to the new MK_1 Pick-Up has been equally positive. This, combined with over 200 pre-orders for the Truck and Pick-Up, gives us great confidence that the vehicles Munro has developed are exactly what the market wants and needs, and that we can play an important role in helping those in challenging environments such as mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense to achieve their upcoming decarbonization goals. This represents a significant global market opportunity that we can fully exploit together with our financial partners as we take the next strategic step and approach the pre-series prototype phase."

What does that mean?

They just did it! Munro has – barely noticed by the European public – put an electric hardcore utility vehicle with many flat surfaces on wheels and already received 200 orders for it – which is remarkable for such an extreme vehicle. Even more valuable is the sustainability: It is intended as a work tool for "decades." This reminds us of the saying: "Everyone says it cannot be done. Then someone came along who didn't know that – and just did it!"
