Movelo connects TGW logistics locations via pedelec sharing

From four to two wheels: How companies efficiently connect their locations with e-bikes is demonstrated by the example of logistics provider TGW. Here, a pedelec-sharing system ensures environmentally friendly mobility between locations.

The Bad Reichenhall-based specialist in corporate bike-sharing, Movelo, has installed a rental bike system for connecting the locations of the internationally operating Austrian logistics company TGW. The issue of site connections concerns all organizations whose employees regularly commute between several spatially separated branches - from municipal companies to multinational corporations, the provider outlines the problem.

Especially for short and medium distances, there are a variety of options, from pool vehicles, carpooling, and public transport to the classic company car. Particularly the role of the latter, a prestigious means of transportation, is experiencing a change in times of traffic problems and increasing environmental awareness, says the bike-sharing specialist. Here, they wanted to offer a modern and environmentally friendly solution for site connections with e-bikes for the internationally active company TGW Logistics.

"The question of what effective corporate mobility looks like is as complex as the requirements of an individual company, its customers, and its employees," considers Herbert Ottenschläger, Head of Sales at movelo.

The company from Bad Reichenhall advises companies, municipalities, and other organizations on mobility services related to electric bicycles and has already equipped customers in seven countries with over 6,000 sharing e-bikes.

"However, a clear trend is emerging: Both in densely populated areas, i.e., medium and larger cities, as well as for short to medium distances, the role of the company car is increasingly being questioned - by companies as well as by employees," Ottenschläger further explains.

High Emissions and Costs: Car at a Disadvantage

This is not only due to pollutant emissions and the sometimes high costs that the company car causes. Traffic congestion and lack of parking spaces also cost drivers in urban areas time, whether it’s for private or professional individual transportation, and are increasingly playing a role. Added to this is the change in significance triggered in recent years, where the role of the car as a status symbol is being questioned, as well as increasingly imposed driving bans for cars in city centers. According to Ottenschläger, competitive, user-friendly, efficient, and economical solutions for site development often emerge in the form of a mobility mix.

“For short and medium distances, employees, for example, use bicycles or e-bikes, for longer distances they use public transport or car-sharing or company cars, and for material transport the company's delivery van. According to our experience, the acceptance of mobility solutions by employees depends on how useful they perceive them to be for the respective situation," describes the Movelo CEO further.

An ideal use case for sharing e-bikes emerged with the intralogistics specialist TGW Logistics, which has been relying on movelo for the connection of its locations for five years.

“We want to offer our employees a green and flexible 'connection' between our two main locations in Austria. They use the e-bikes for their daily commutes and also for a ride during their lunch break. movelo has offered us the most suitable concept and implemented it professionally,” explains Christoph Rafbauer, Head of Purchasing at TGW Logistics.

Reservation via App

The two locations are in Marchtrenk (the international headquarters of the company that operates on three continents) and Wels. They are just under five kilometers apart, providing ideal conditions for a connection via e-bike. Through the movelo app, each employee can reserve an electric bicycle and unlock it at the start of their ride, explains the specialist about the process.

"The forward-thinking site connection solution from TGW Logistics demonstrates what is already possible today when companies discover the potential of modern e-bike fleets," promotes Herbert Ottenschläger in conclusion.

Experiences show that new approaches to corporate mobility prevail particularly where they meet requirements that previous forms of mobility could only inadequately satisfy – and where they bring clear advantages in terms of cost, efficiency, user-friendliness, and sustainability, summarizes Ottenschläger.
