Morris Commercial has built another, now near-production version of the JE and is touring it across the UK: After the Silverstone Classic, it went to the Cenex Low Carbon Vehicle Show in Millbrook, an exciting fair for both the Morris Commercial team and Morris JE fans, where the near-production version was shown: Without a split front windscreen (a pity) and with camera side mirrors.

Manufactured using recycled CFRP and aluminum for a tonne payload

The body is made from recycled carbon fibers that are no longer used in production, and the "skateboard" chassis now carries the final configuration of the battery and drivetrain. With a total weight of just 2,500 kg and a range of up to 250 miles (that's about 400 kilometers, of which roughly 300 are realistic), the new, all-electric Morris JE offers an extremely good payload of 1,000 kilograms. This is mainly achieved through the combination of a lightweight aluminum frame with a body made of recycled carbon fiber.

After its debut at the Cenex LCV Show, the new salmon pink Morris JE returned home and met its grandfather, the renowned Morris J Type, which is our design inspiration for the 2022 Morris JE.

Production is set to start in 2023, unfortunately at not so affordable prices starting from £60,000 – that's around €68,150 net – which has to cover design and manufacturing efforts, pushing the JE more towards the niche market of enthusiasts and show vans – for comparison: the ID. Buzz starts as Cargo at a similarly not so slender €45,740, but only offers a modest 650 kg payload.

What does this mean?

It has always been more expensive to have a special taste: Morris Commercial Vehicles with the JE is going for maximum lightweight construction with maximum retro looks, which is much more extreme than VW with the ID. Buzz. One can be curious how the next steps are planned and when concrete details about production will finally emerge. The brand definitely deserves the comeback.
