More public charging points in Thuringia

(dpa/th/fn) Even though the sale of electric cars is faltering, the public infrastructure continues to grow. This is particularly evident in Thuringia.

Those who drive an electric car in Thuringia now have considerably more options for public charging points than a year ago. As of the key date of July 1st, there were just under 3,000 charging points in the Free State, around 1,000 more than in July 2023, according to the German Association of the Automotive Industry, based on data from the Federal Network Agency and the Federal Motor Transport Authority.

No federal state has more fast charging points

While in 2023 an average of 15.1 purely battery-powered cars or plug-in hybrids still had to share one charging point, this year it was only 12. Thuringia thus ranks third nationwide after Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. However, all three states are among the lowest in the share of electric cars in Germany, which helps them achieve a better position.

About one in three charging points in Thuringia was a fast charger with a capacity of at least 22 kilowatts in July. No federal state had as many fast charging points in relation to the number of electric cars as Thuringia.

Different Accessibility

Regionally, there are significant differences in the free state. According to the figures, the ratio of charging points to electric cars was most favorable in the Saale-Orla district with 5.8 and in Gera with 7.8. In contrast, in the district of Greiz there were 17.3 electric cars per charging point, and in the district of Gotha, it was 17.1.
