The world is in the exciting early days of a new era of mobility. A new chapter in transportation is being written, enabled by the technological revolution and characterized by electrification, connectivity, personalization, autonomous driving, and above all, sustainability.

Moving away from gasoline and horsepower towards electricity and digitalization – above all, the automobile is being reinvented, evolving into a self-driving, always-connected "device". Through the radical, albeit prolonged, transformation and the new ways cars are used, the interior of the vehicle is gaining significant importance.

From a mere means of transportation to a mobile office, robo-taxi, or cinema on four wheels, the requirements profile is changing enormously. This in turn opens up endless new possibilities to rethink the interior of the vehicle and to use the time spent in the car in versatile ways.

From Auto- to Tech-Company

Automobile companies will need to further develop into integrated technology companies and increasingly rely on new innovation and development partners from the software or display industries. Moreover, this also means that other industries are pushing into the automobile domain, ranging from the entertainment or insurance sectors to gaming providers or retail. Already today, Google's Android, Apple's CarPlay, or Amazon's Alexa and Fire are significant platforms in the vehicle and will play an even more crucial role in the future.

The priorities of the automobile product will change significantly

With this revolution, both the priorities of the ‘car’ product and the associated development processes are changing radically. The vehicle interior is becoming a living space, and thus there is an urgent need for novel platforms to connect developers, producers, and providers of these interior experiences and mobile living spaces, fostering innovative thinking.

To manage and support this exchange globally and, above all, interdisciplinarily, Christian Eckert founded "mobility spaces" as a new, independent conference platform and think tank in 2023.

On February 22, 2024, the time finally came: The first event took place in Los Angeles, California - purposefully chosen as one of the leading ‘new mobility’ cities worldwide and at the same time a center of the entertainment industry and home to countless technology companies.

Leading experts from the fields of Digital Design, AI, Virtual Reality, and Gaming have presented inspiring lectures providing insights and outlooks into their domains, which will increasingly play a crucial role in the automotive interior as well. In addition to Christian Eckert, Chief Experience Officer of icon group Americas and founder of “mobility spaces,” the following specialists have lectured:

- Dr. Steffen Walz, Managing Director of “icon impact” on ‘immersive mobility’

- Yasaman Sheri, Design Director of Meta Oculus and Principal Investigator on “virtual reality”

- Tony Kim, CEO of ProtoPie on the future of Prototyping

- Mike Romo, Senior Partnerships Director of “DDM” on global trends in Gaming

- Paul Ferraiolo, Director of Strategy & Research, and Charles Drueco, Creative Director of “BMW Group Designworks” on AI & Creativity

- Anthony Cliquot, CEO of “AirConsole” on Gaming in the vehicle

What does this mean?

The sold-out “mobility spaces” event has launched a new type of innovation platform for a new era of mobility with its kickoff. With future events already planned in Tokyo, Seoul, and Berlin, it will live up to its claim of inspiring, connecting, and promoting knowledge transfer in and around the car of the future in an interdisciplinary and intercultural manner.
