Mobility: Carsharing is also on the rise in rural areas - one shared car replaces eleven private cars

Conthey, Laax, and Goms have something in common: They are among the more than 500 municipalities where at least one shared car from the Mobility cooperative is now available. With around 2,100 municipalities in Switzerland, Mobility is thus represented in every fourth one. "This milestone makes me very happy," says Mobility CEO Roland Lötscher.

"It shows that carsharing is becoming increasingly important in both agglomerations and rural areas."

In the last five years alone, more than 50 municipalities have been added. This significant increase is thanks in no small part to collaborations, such as with the Raiffeisen banks, which have been able to station a Mobility electric car at their buildings since 2022. But municipalities, residential developments, and other companies also have the opportunity to establish Mobility carsharing in their area through sponsorships. Carsharing as a location advantage for municipalities The municipality of Gais in Appenzell Ausserrhoden has been relying on Mobility since this spring.

"In our opinion, carsharing is a clear location advantage for a forward-looking municipality," says municipal clerk Roland Lussmann.

Because even in small and medium-sized villages, the demand for parking spaces and parking garages is increasing while the supply is limited. "With the Mobility vehicle, we support people who do not have their own car. Both guests and the local population now have the opportunity to use a car flexibly and on fair terms when needed." This also applies to the municipality of Conthey in Central Valais, where a Mobility car has been available for several months. "We are convinced of the potential of carsharing in Conthey," says municipal councillor Philippe Germanier. "It therefore seemed logical to us to seize the opportunity to become a partner of Mobility to give a little boost to the development of the company."
