Mobiko & RMV cooperate for mobility budget and job ticket

It is meant to be more than the JobTicket: The Rhein-Main Transport Association is cooperating with Mobiko to offer employers a mobility budget for employees starting in 2024, which can be booked additionally or separately. Within the budget, they can then choose whether public transport, scooters, or car- or bike-sharing suits them best.

In collaboration with the Munich start-up MOBIKO, the Rhein-Main Transport Association announced a new offer for employers starting in 2024. With the so-called RMV Mobility Budget, they are accounting for the trend towards flexible transportation options in professional mobility. Employers can provide their employees with a custom amount of money, which allows them to be comprehensively mobile. The RMV Mobility Budget is supported by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the RMVall-in mobility project.

“The holistic approach of the RMV Mobility Budget ideally complements the RMV JobTicket. Whether it's public transport or long-distance travel, car-sharing, bike-sharing, or e-scooters – with the RMV Mobility Budget, employers offer their employees the exact type of mobility they need at the moment. This provides immense added value for employees and can be a decisive advantage for companies in the competition for the best talents,” explained RMV Managing Director Prof. Knut Ringat.

Additionally, the mobility budget shows employees the "full diversity of mobility." This motivates people to choose environmentally friendly modes of transport they might not have otherwise considered, thus contributing to achieving climate goals, Ringat believes.

“When we talk about emission problems in transport, it is hugely related to commuter traffic in cities. There is currently a lack of strong incentives to encourage people to leave their cars at home more often," advocates Andreas Reichert, Managing Director of MOBIKO.

To fill this incentive gap, public transport as the backbone of commuter mobility must be expanded with on-demand services and shared mobility. These services need to be so seamlessly and conveniently linked that it is enjoyable for commuters to use them, and no one misses their own car, Reichert opines. Apart from usage, the billing of these services for the employer plays a crucial role for the mobility expert. Flexible mobility is only plausible for the employer if it does not result in additional effort in payroll or financial accounting. Implementing this without any effort is the goal of MOBIKO's mobility budget.

The mobility budget can be booked by companies or optionally added to the JobTicket starting in 2024. Employees can use their available mobility budget via a smartphone app. With the expansion of the product portfolio through the mobility budget, RMV will offer a new, flexible option as a complement to the existing product range starting next year.
