Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in returns in 2024
Since its market launch in 2013, Mitsubishi has sold the plug-in model more than 200,000 times in Europe alone, making it one of Europe's most successful plug-in hybrids. Since 2003, Mitsubishi has managed to sell over 500,000 units of the series. Interestingly, the plug-in variant sold significantly better than the combustion engine versions.Frank Krol, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe, is pleased:
“The introduction of the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid underscores Mitsubishi Motors' commitment to the European market and is another important step in our product plan to return to the European core segment of D-SUVs.”
Visually a big step: The "Enegleberg Tourer" says hello
Visually following the study "Engelberg Tourer," the latest version of the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid appeared in 2021, already part of the series program in many markets, including the USA. Europe is finally set to follow in 2024. It is supposed to offer "tangible robustness" visually and, according to Mitsubishi, the brand's typical "Dynamic Shield" at the front and the well-known "Hexaguard Horizon Design" at the rear are intended to convey safety and strength. Inside, Mitsubishi aims to create a high-quality appearance with quality, functionality, and "Japanese craftsmanship."
The new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is set to receive a European adaptation of Mitsubishi Motors' second-generation plug-in hybrid system, equipped with the all-wheel drive system called Super-All Wheel Control. Additionally, the new Outlander will feature the latest driver assistance and infotainment technologies.
Larger battery for up to 87 km electric range
Compared to its predecessor, the new generation has received a larger drive battery with a capacity of 20 kWh, enabling a purely electric range of up to 87 kilometers in the WLTP driving cycle. Previously, it was 54 kilometers according to the discontinued NEDC standard. The new generation of the spacious SUV has received more than 20 awards for design and technology worldwide over the past two years, emphasizes the manufacturer.

In the USA, the gasoline model starts at an extremely affordable $27,595 before state taxes, the plug-in hybrid at $39,845. We estimate a starting price of around €45,000 including taxes for Europe. The Eclipse Cross Plug-in currently starts at €36,690 including taxes, after a promotional discount of €4,500.
What does that mean?
Currently, the Mitsubishi lineup is extremely condensed into four models, half of which are Renault models. In this context, the Outlander, as an important core model for brand development, is exceedingly beneficial.
