The Federal Ministry of Transport, led by Andreas Scheuer (CSU), is apparently planning to link the recently announced scrappage premium for trucks to the installation of turn assistants. This information was obtained by the German Press Agency from government circles. Accordingly, only companies that also order a turning assistance system, which can prevent or mitigate severe accidents with cyclists or pedestrians, would receive the state purchase premium for Euro VI trucks. Last week, following a so-called "auto summit," the federal government announced in a four-page resolution paper that it intends to provide a total of 500 million euros to companies that trade in their older trucks for newer Euro VI standard ones. Federal Transport Minister Scheuer had already promoted the turn assistant with notable actions in the past ("#IchHabDenAssi") and supported this initiative with the "Turn Assistant Funding Program" also using federal funds. This program was relaunched in May 2020, is already exhausted for this year, but is expected to be renewed until the end of 2024. Currently, funding is also possible through the "De Minimis" program.
