Ministry of Transport supports biomethane projects
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) has published the new funding call “Biological Methanization using CO2 sources from bioenergy production and hydrogen at a central location for the production of renewable fuel.” The call aims to advance biological methanization as an innovative technology for the production of CNG and LNG fuels to market maturity, according to the office of FDP Transport Minister Volker Wissing. Projects can include the construction and operation of pilot plants, the sourcing of green hydrogen, as well as scientific support for optimization and assessment of the ecological and economic potential. The focus is on application-oriented projects, and therefore the funding call is particularly directed at companies from areas such as plant engineering, component manufacturing (electrolysis, synthesis processes), and fuel production and use. The submission deadline for project sketches is October 31, 2022. Additionally, the ministry is offering an online seminar on May 11 to provide information and assistance from the institutions commissioned to implement the funding measure, NOW GmbH and the Expert Agency for Renewable Resources e.V. (FNR).
Renewable fuels have great potential for climate protection
The funding call “Biological Methanization” is published under the “Guideline for the Promotion of Measures for the Development of Renewable Fuels” by the BMDV. This guideline covers projects for the demonstration, innovation, and market preparation for the entire range of renewable fuels in gaseous and liquid form for all modes of transport. In addition to regular technology-open deadlines, the BMDV also publishes thematic funding calls.
"Promoting renewable fuels is a key component for achieving climate protection goals in the transport sector. While conventional biofuels are already available on the market, there is still development potential for electricity-based fuels and advanced biofuels from waste and residual materials. To unlock these potentials, the BMDV relies on its comprehensive concept for renewable fuels to support both the further development of fuel technologies and the market entry and ramp-up of these fuels," according to the office.
