The independent carsharing provider Miles has announced its plans to be the first provider to launch station-independent carsharing in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia. With a business area of about 9 square kilometers, a fleet of 20 vehicles, and plans to expand to up to 50 vehicles, it aims to open up a new mobility option: short-term and long-term carsharing without fixed stations (Free Floating). The vehicle fleet will be offered in the well-known mix, including small vehicles, compact cars, and two transporters. The various vehicle sizes are intended to cover a wide range of uses, from everyday tasks like weekly shopping to trips to the surrounding area, airport transfers, and moves. Additionally, the fleet is planned to be continuously expanded; depending on demand and in consultation with the city, there could be up to 50 vehicles within the next few months.

"We are very pleased that Solingen is so open to the introduction of carsharing. We hope that many citizens will be encouraged to use this practical and sustainable alternative to their own car," explains company spokesperson Nora Goette.

In addition to the local offer in the independent city, the system can also be used for one-way trips to other cities. This could provide added value, particularly in the event of public transport failures or route closures, outlines the provider. Between the operating cities in NRW (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Duisburg, Wuppertal, Solingen), there is no additional fee for parking in another city. Additionally, users can drive to the airports Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn and park and rent the vehicles there. The airport fee of five euros is automatically calculated.
