Effective immediately, the independent carsharing service MILES is also offering its service in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, and Bonn as station-independent carsharing. The vehicles can be rented and parked flexibly within the business area. Billing is done based on kilometers driven (0.89 € per km) or on a flexible daily rate for up to 30 days.
“It is the first time that MILES launches its service in four cities simultaneously. A true milestone for us and station-independent carsharing,” comments Oliver Mackprang, CEO of MILES, on the launch.
The fleet in the Rhineland now includes over 400 Audi A4 Avant and Audi Q2 vehicles, in addition to the more than 100 existing transporters, though it does not include electric vehicles. More models and brands are expected to follow soon. In addition to the common "from-A-to-B trips" and daily rentals, city-to-city trips are possible. Within the Rhineland, these trips are available without additional fees. MILES also enables trips abroad. The countries include all nine neighboring states of Germany as well as Italy and Liechtenstein.
Cooperation with Public Transport and Free Now
Cooperations with other mobility providers as well as close collaboration with cities and municipalities are the basis for a comprehensive mobility shift. MILES users can therefore book the cars and transporters via the Rheinbahn app - redy - as well as via FREE NOW. The offer is also integrated into the KVB app. The carsharing company has additionally joined the MaaS NRW alliance, which aims for connected and seamless mobility in North Rhine-Westphalia.
“We want to make mobility easy. Alternative transport options such as carsharing are not competition for us as a public transport company but a meaningful addition for door-to-door travel. With 'redy,' our customers have an app in their pocket that allows them to easily combine these options. Generally, they get a noticeably better connection than with their own car. All services are billed simply and conveniently through one account in 'redy'," explains Susanne Momberg, CFO of Rheinbahn.
From the Free Now side, they point to the range of models with which users can directly book over 180,000 vehicles from various mobility brands - from carsharing cars to eScooters, eMopeds, eBikes, taxis, or rental cars with drivers.
“We are pleased that we can expand our carsharing offering in the Rhineland with MILES, providing even more people an alternative to their own car," says Silvia Fischer, Vice President of Smart Mobility at FREE NOW.
Furthermore, various charity vehicles are in use. One hundred percent of the revenue from rides with the charity cars is donated to a local, non-profit organization. The organizations change every three months. The initiative starts with the Kölner Tafel.
