The independent car-sharing provider Miles has announced its return to Munich. Effective immediately, there are 400 cars available in addition to the transporters in Munich. The rental process is conducted via app and is not tied to specific stations. Billing, as usual with this provider, is based on kilometers driven, not minutes. In 2019, the car-sharing service first brought a fleet of cars and transporters to Munich's streets. However, after an initial test phase, it was decided to withdraw the 200 cars until an economic expansion of the fleet could be ensured, according to reports.

"Back then we were still very young, and it was too early for such an expansion," commented CEO Oliver Mackprang on the previous withdrawal.

Now, they are returning with a strong fleet of cars that can serve as a genuine alternative to owning a car. He sees this as an important role in "advancing shared mobility in the city of Munich." When electric cars for sharing, as in Hamburg and Berlin, will be available along the Isar is still not determined, but it is under consideration and dependent on findings in the pilot cities.

Also day rates and an airport flat rate

The conventionally powered fleet in the Bavarian capital now includes, in addition to the transporters, a total of 400 VW Polos and Audi A4 Avants, aiming to meet various user needs. Besides the classic kilometer-based free-floating car-sharing, the vehicles can also be booked for daily and long-term rentals. The operational area extends from Pasing in the west to Bogenhausen in the east, Schwabing-Freimann in the north to the Hellabrunn Zoo (or Obersendling) in the south.

Additionally, Munich Airport is part of the area, which can be accessed with an airport flat rate of a maximum of 35 euros and up to 65 kilometers. However, car-sharing can also be booked via the FreeNow app. Moreover, a partnership with MVG is also in the starting blocks, and they plan to have smaller cooperations with companies based in Munich.
