Milan orders 100 more Urbino 12 electric
The transport company ATM from Milan has ordered 100 additional electric buses from the framework contract with Solaris for 250 vehicles. Together with the 40 ordered in 2019, there are a total of 140 units that the Polish bus manufacturer will deliver to the Italian fashion capital by the end of 2021. After the implementation of the entire contract, up to 275 emission-free Solaris buses could be in service in Milan. The first vehicles of a batch of 25 Urbino 12 already arrived in Milan in 2018. The northern Italian metropolis aims to replace its diesel buses with electrified ones by 2030.
This is for sure: Mobileye Shield+ and MirrorEye
ATM Milano decided to equip the buses with two solutions that have been in Solaris' portfolio since 2019: Mobileye Shield+, which uses acoustic and optical signals to indicate objects in the vehicle's blind spot, and the mirror replacement system MirrorEye, which is being installed for test purposes in one of Milan's electric buses.
What does this mean?
Electric mobility is now gaining significant momentum in the city bus sector: Among the 100 Urbino 12 electric buses ordered by Milan is the 1,000th electric bus to roll off the production line at the Polish Solaris plant. The first Urbino electric premiered in 2011. Since then, the electrically powered buses of this model have been ordered by almost 100 customers from 18 countries.
