Michelin: e.Primacy designed to help electric cars achieve greater range
The French tire manufacturer Michelin has unveiled a new tire that is not only but especially suitable for electric vehicles. The e.Primacy is also supposed to be the most environmentally friendly tire in Michelin's portfolio. The lower rolling resistance of the tire is said to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and improving fuel efficiency, or in the case of electric cars, reducing electricity consumption and increasing range. Specifically, the rolling resistance is expected to be reduced by 27 percent, which should result in up to 0.21 l/100 km in fuel savings - or 80 euros in costs over 35,000 km. For electric vehicles, a range increase of up to 7 percent is promised. The tire will be available starting March 2021 in 56 tire sizes ranging from 15 to 20 inches and will be manufactured, among other places, at the Bad Kreuznach plant.
From the very beginning of development, strong focus was placed on the ecological balance. For the first time, all impacts over the life cycle were taken into account using environmental compatibility simulations and lifecycle assessment methods, from raw material extraction to tire manufacturing, distribution, use, and recycling, assures the manufacturer.
