In China, the first renderings of the MG Cyberster E-Roadster have emerged. The Cyberster is expected to go into production in 2023 and to be available for sale from 2024. The production model is anticipated to be nothing less than “a turning point in terms of brand perception,” hopes MG's Commercial Director for the UK, Guy Pigounakis, at an event. There is no information about the powertrain yet, but Pigounakis already hinted at a “very powerful” version with all-wheel drive. The base model is likely to feature rear-wheel drive (and thus a rear motor).

The MG Cyberster will be a classic convertible with a fabric roof. The proportions are more reminiscent of current Jaguar models, but MG fundamentally avoids building significant bridges to the past and prefers to reinvent the roadster style. Similar to Mini, the taillights reference the British Union Jack.

The fabric roof is expected to fold under a panel in the rear. The door handle is located directly behind the door itself - the Cyberster is expected to feature conventional doors.

The British Autocar speculates that the top version could achieve a range of a good 800 kilometers and accelerate to 100 km/h in just over three seconds. The open electric car is also supposed to be affordable for a broad customer base thanks to budget-friendly base versions.

What does that mean?

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, MG is expected to return to its roadster roots, which should give a significant boost in terms of branding and emotional appeal. In Europe, brand fans have sorely missed such a model. Especially since in SUV times like these, it is bolder than ever.
