MG Cyberster: MG celebrates its 100th anniversary at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

As a "Central Display Partner," the 100th anniversary of the MG brand will be both thematically and spatially at the heart of the prestigious automobile event in the south of England, which will once again celebrate automotive culture from July 11 to 14, 2024.

Happy birthday MG! Although the first advertisement with the octagon appeared in 1923, the true beginnings of the brand vary depending on the interpretation between 1923 and 1924 – they decided on the latter and are celebrating a grand birthday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Around Goodwood House in Westhampnett near Chichester, MG Motor reminisces about the beginnings from the 14/28, the present, with models like the MG4 Electric XPOWER, to the future Cyberster, which will be launched in Germany later this year. And with the latter, it returns to its roots: roadsters and convertibles have made the brand famous. Marc Hecht, Director of PR & Communications at MG Motor Germany concludes:

“MG Motor has always stood for driving pleasure and will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024 – this fits perfectly with the Festival of Speed. That's why we are very pleased to be the 'Central Display Partner' and to be in the thematic focus in 2024.”

The Duke of Richmond, founder of the Festival of Speed, is also always pleased to host MG:

“Following the world premiere of the impressive Cyberster at the Festival of Speed 2023, we are delighted that MG Motor is returning to Goodwood this year to stylishly celebrate its 100th anniversary with the Central Feature.”

Especially since the Duke of Richmond has a personal connection to the brand through his grandfather, which he explains as follows:

“A fitting tribute to the first 100 years of one of Britain’s oldest and most beloved manufacturers, which has a long connection with Goodwood. From 1948 to 1966, MG were almost ubiquitous on the race track. Before that, my grandfather led the MG team in the 1930s and won the famous double twelve-hour race at Brooklands in 1931. He was fascinated by their light weight, simplicity, and sophisticated engineering – qualities that still characterize the brand today. MG’s 100-year history, combined with their constant pursuit of innovation, fits perfectly with this year's theme 'Horseless to Hybrid', which celebrates the technological and performance advancements that have shaped motorsport over the past 130 years.”

Two important vehicles for MG's milestone anniversary

To celebrate MG Motor’s milestone anniversary, two important vehicles are coming to the German market: the MG Cyberster, already announced in 2023, which contemporarily continues the brand’s roadster tradition with an all-electric drive, and the MG3 Hybrid+, which was recently unveiled to the world at the Geneva Motor Show and will launch in Germany in early summer. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, MG Motor will be showcasing not only its extensive history but also primarily current and future models.

What does this mean?

MG is treating itself to its 100th birthday – with an appearance in Goodwood and two new models. While the Cyberster ties into the brand’s tradition, the MG 3 Hybrid+ will perform more inconspicuous groundwork. However, there was once the plain but well-selling Austin 1100 as an MG…
