MG celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023, depending on the reading. And it might finally gift itself another roadster. Shortly before the 2023 trade fair, further images of the "MG brand core" were published by the MIIT. In China, new models must be reported to the Ministry and published by them in a neutral catalog so that Chinese consumers can inform themselves about new products on a comparable basis.

Bigger, More Powerful: More Size and Performance

The MIIT data also reveals the final dimensions: It measures 4.54 meters in length and offers a generous 2.69 meters wheelbase. The height is a flat 1.33 meters. The rather large length is probably due to a sufficiently large battery. Although details about this are not yet known, there is data on the drive: The Cyberster program is set to start with a 231 kW rear-wheel drive version. This drive unit is also installed in a 250 kW version in the top model, but the rear electric motor is supplemented there by the 150 kW front axle motor known from the MG4. With more than 400 kW, the all-wheel-drive model should be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in around three seconds, meaning the MG surpasses not only the size but also the performance of its predecessors by far.

The production version now shown has been significantly toned down compared to the concept studies and avoids any kind of strong references to its predecessors – but it is still designed with a certain "Britishness". This culminates in the arrow-shaped taillights that clearly indicate the direction when signaling but can also be read as part of the "Union Jack" that Mini also features in its taillights.

Prices have not yet been disclosed – nor has it been announced when and where the model will be sold. However, it can be assumed that the roadster, due to its practically non-existent competition (until Genesis and Polestar arrive), will also be sold in Europe – and as mentioned: it could also be a great way to celebrate a big birthday!

What does this mean?

With the Cyberster, the core of the MG brand would come back in the form of a snappy roadster. Many would look forward to it, and it would do the brand as a whole a lot of good, repositioning it as slightly sportier.
