MG celebrates 10,000 new registrations and one percent market share in Germany

MG Motor achieves its annual target of 10,000 new registrations by mid-November, capturing a market share of one percent in October, catching up with established automakers like Nissan - and surpassing manufacturers like Suzuki, Honda, and Alfa Romeo.

The strong growth of MG Motor in the German automotive market has gained further momentum. In October, the Federal Motor Transport Authority registered for the first time over 2,000 new registrations of the brand's vehicles in just one month. Accordingly, every 100th newly registered car in Germany in October was an MG. Just over two weeks later – on November 15 – MG Motor also reached its annual target of 10,000 new registrations in just over ten months. This tripled the brand's registration numbers from the previous year.

In October, 2,032 MG Motor cars were newly registered – corresponding to a monthly market share of just under one percent. For comparison: In the entire year of 2021, a total of 3,239 MG vehicles were delivered to customers, with 619 in October 2021.

“With the MG5 Electric and the MG4 Electric, we have expanded the MG Motor product portfolio this year with two extremely attractive vehicles. We are pleased that they significantly contribute to the steadily increasing sales figures and that we have already achieved our 2022 sales target ahead of schedule,” summarizes Philipp Hempel, Sales & Network Director DACH of MG Motor. “The course for 2023 is also set. Our goals are ambitious. Registering 2,000 new cars in one month for the first time is a nice snapshot, but we are already working on taking the next step. Thanks to a dedicated team and equally dedicated agency partners, we will master the tasks ahead of us.”

MG ZS EV and MG5 Electric most popular fully electric models from MG

Available for order only since March and already a fully electric success model: The MG5 Electric – the world's first fully electric station wagon – is almost on par with the MG ZS EV in the brand's registration statistics for battery electric cars. 2,216 of the electric station wagons have been registered so far in 2022, compared to 2,326 of the compact electric SUVs. Only the MG EHS, a compact SUV with a plug-in hybrid, can boast more new registrations for MG Motor in 2022 (3,697). In September and October, the first vehicles of the new MG4 Electric were also delivered, which impressed us during the test drive in Munich. The sportily designed ID.3 competitor came to market this fall at a price starting at 28,420 euros.

What does that mean?

MG will primarily take off with the electric vehicles MG4 and MG5. The ID.3 competitor MG4 is technically equivalent, but much cheaper. And so far, no one has offered an affordable pure electric station wagon on an electric platform.
