Metropolis GZM orders 32 Solaris electric buses
The GZM Metropolis, which includes the cities of Gliwice, Katowice, Sosnowiec, and Swierklaniec, plans to start emissions-free public transport with Solaris Urbino electric. They have ordered 27 Urbino 12 electric solos and 5 articulated Urbino 18 electric buses along with the charging infrastructure. This includes 11 pantograph chargers and 16 plug-in chargers. Delivery is scheduled for 2023.
In addition to the chargers, the Polish bus manufacturer Solaris is responsible, as per contract, for the planning, obtaining building permits, construction supervision on behalf of the client, and establishment of the necessary charging infrastructure.
“We are immensely pleased with the collaboration with GZM and the transport operators that serve the regional association’s area. The signed contract is a sign of trust for us and at the same time proof of the highest quality of our products. The GZM Metropolis is a unique region that makes an important contribution to the development of environmentally-friendly mobility through its decisions. We are proud that we can realize sustainable development together,” emphasized Petros Spinaris, board member of Solaris Bus & Coach, responsible for sales, marketing, and customer service.
Details
The electric buses are equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries, with the Urbino 12 electric having a total capacity of 250 kWh and the Urbino 18 electric having 400 kWh. The electric buses are to be refueled both via pantograph and plug-in. The traction motors integrated with the drive axle provide propulsion in both models.
The installed air conditioning ensures a constant, pre-programmable temperature in the passenger compartment. The E-Solo can accommodate 80 passengers, while the E-articulated bus can hold at least 115. Both models have designated areas for the transportation of wheelchairs, strollers, or bicycles.
In addition to illuminated USB charging ports, the equipment includes a system for recording vehicle and driver data, passenger counting sensors, and numerous safety features. These include an alcohol interlock, an automatic fire extinguishing system, and a closed driver’s cabin for infection protection during pandemics. A system of cameras monitors the passenger compartment as well as the streets around the vehicle.
