Meritor supplies eAxle for the Volta Zero
The contract is finalized: Meritor will become the main supplier for the Volta Zero, the first fully electric 16-ton truck specifically designed for inner-city deliveries in Europe. The American manufacturer will equip Volta Trucks with a fully electric eAxle, a novelty in the European market.
"Meritor is excited about partnering with Volta Trucks to bring commercial electric vehicles to the European market. Our expertise and investment in advanced technologies enable us to offer fully electric solutions to customers like Volta Trucks," comments Ken Hogan, Vice President Europe and Asia Pacific of Meritor.
Zero is set to launch this year
The first prototype of the Volta Zero was developed in September 2020, and according to Volta Trucks, commercial operation is planned to begin by the end of 2021. The range is expected to be between 150 and 200 kilometers. The environmental impact could be significantly positive: Volta Trucks anticipates a potential CO2 savings of 180,000 tons by 2025 through the use of the Zero.
