Mercedes eActros transports Ritter Sport emission-free

The family-owned company specializing in square chocolate bars is testing the battery-electric 18-ton truck on the route between the Dettenhausen warehouse and the production site at the company headquarters in Waldenbuch near Stuttgart. On the loading area: nuts, almonds, foils, and packaging materials. The eActros covers seven kilometers on the way between the warehouse and production. To ensure everything arrives on time, Daimler Trucks reports, Ritter Sport uses the truck in a flexible shuttle operation. Additionally, the eActros delivers freshly produced chocolate from the nearby factory to the SchokoShop – Ritter Sport's factory outlet at the company headquarters.

The 18-ton truck with a range of approximately 200 kilometers is equipped with an electrically powered and thus emission-free refrigerated swap body from Schmitz Cargobull. The batteries of the electric truck are recharged overnight on the Ritter Sport factory premises after the daily tours.

"For more than two years, numerous customers have been intensively testing our battery-electric eActros for heavy-duty distribution in various applications. We are very pleased that Ritter Sport – the traditional manufacturer of the well-known square chocolate bars – is now also relying on the eActros for the demand-driven supply of its production here in the Stuttgart area," explains Jasper Hafkamp, Head of Global Marketing Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Andreas Ronken, CEO at Ritter Sport, emphasizes that the protection of natural resources is important to the family-owned company and is an integral part of their business practices.

“This naturally includes transport logistics as part of the supply chain. With the Mercedes-Benz eActros, we are now testing a CO₂-neutral transport solution that matches our corporate values regarding sustainability and transparency," Ronken continues.

The refrigerated swap body of the eActros used by Alfred Ritter is the W.KO Cool model from Schmitz Cargobull. It features special insulation for energy-efficient transport of refrigerated goods. The body is specially designed for intensive daily use. The purely electric refrigeration unit operates completely emission-free and is specially designed for use in distribution transport. In the second test phase, the vehicle bodies will continue to be largely provided by Schmitz Cargobull.
