Mercedes-Benz Trucks: High Demand for Turning Assistant

The commercial vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Trucks announces increased demand for its Turn Assist system across Europe. This fully integrated Turn Assist S1R has been available ex-works for many models of the Actros, Arocs, or Econic series since 2016, and since 2019 it can also be retrofitted to numerous models of these series (from model year 2017 onwards).

"We are very pleased that more and more customers are trusting in the Mercedes-Benz Trucks Turn Assist and providing their drivers with this important safety assistance system," said Andreas von Wallfeld, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

In most European markets, a positive trend is observed, with the highest demand coming from Germany and Switzerland. Here, around 85 percent of the Actros models for which the system is available have already been ordered with the Turn Assist, Wallfeld further stated.

For the Atego, as well as for those Actros, Antos, or Arocs series that cannot yet be equipped with the Turn Assist, Mercedes-Benz Original Accessories has been offering the basic retrofit Turn Assist since the middle of the year. From June 2021, Mercedes-Benz Trucks will introduce another potentially life-saving safety assistance system, the Active Sideguard Assist (ASGA). According to their own information, they will be the first manufacturer to offer an active turn assist that can not only warn the driver of cyclists, e-scooters, or pedestrians on the passenger side but will also initiate automated braking to a standstill at a turning speed of up to 20 km/h if the driver does not respond to the warning sounds.
