Mercedes-Benz Taxis: E-vans displace E-Class
Now it is official: "With the model change of the current E-Class and the model refresh of the current B-Class, the current taxi package will no longer be available. Please understand that for competitive reasons, we cannot yet specify exact dates for these model changes," writes Alexandra May, Head of Public Relations and Internal Communication at Mercedes-Benz Sales Germany (MBVD) in Berlin, on March 3, 2022, in response to some questions from taxi today about the taxi future of their brand. The sales department is responsible for the taxi business.
The spokesperson justifies that the sales of the E-Class and B-Class as taxi models have declined by 75 percent in the last four years alone. On the other hand, the demand for spacious taxi models like the Vito, V-Class, eVito Tourer, and EQV has steadily increased. The company does not specify by how much, neither in percentage terms nor in unit numbers, which is unfortunately common in taxi circles. Market analyses have shown that in the future, particularly the demand for spacious, multifunctional vehicles with higher entry levels and up to seven seats will continue to rise in passenger transport. Therefore, they focus consistently on van products in the taxi and rental car sector.
