Mercedes-Benz T-Class also comes as EQT electric vehicle

For the city van, Mercedes-Benz remains loyal to its former partner Renault: The new Citan and the T-Class again correspond to the Renault Kangoo, but the models are now more differentiated and Daimler ensured greater seriousness already in the raw construction, which also characterizes the new Renault. In addition to the Citan, which with its equipment is mainly aimed at commercial customers and craftsmen, Mercedes-Benz now presents the T-Class, which also comes as an electric EQT. Interestingly, this will be officially launched before the conventionally powered models as part of the "Electric first” strategy.

The premiere of the Concept EQT will take place on May 10, 2021. Only the front of the electric van, developed once again jointly with Renault-Nissan, can be seen in an initial teaser image. The E-platform offers a 52 kW electric motor and a battery pack that is supposed to provide a range of around 400 kilometers. The French will also offer the new Kangoo with 1.5-liter turbo diesels - presumably with 80, 95, and 115 HP. The combustion version of the T-Class could at least take over the two stronger ones. Citan and T-Class are likely to be built at Renault's French plant in Maubeuge. The interior will also be significantly more differentiated: here the EQT is oriented towards EQA and others.

What does this mean?

It is interesting that Daimler is already consistently shifting to "electric first" for city vans: The T-Class will thus be presented first as the EQT, and then as a combustion engine. It can be assumed that, given the more regional and family-oriented use spectrum of the EQT, which is not designed as a long-distance driver, the E-version will achieve significant sales shares from the start.
