The British "AutoExpress" was among the first to report: The EQC is missing from the manufacturer's website. Cross-check: indeed, we couldn't find it either and read from our colleagues at electrive.net that they had already inquired. A spokesperson then confirmed that the EQC has been discontinued.

Rumors had been circulating since 2022 that the production of the EQC in Bremen would end in 2023. The EQB and EQE performed much better, causing the EQC – which was among the electric pioneers – to lose significant ground, similar to the current situation with the Audi Q8 e-tron.

However, at the time, Mercedes, as reported by electrive.net, did not want to comment on "speculations about future model series and their planning." In the meantime, we checked, and the EQC was officially still available, though already not fully configurable. A spokesperson has now confirmed to our colleagues:

"The production of the EQC ended on schedule in the second quarter of 2023."

The units that could still be ordered since then were already produced stock vehicles. At the beginning of the year, we noticed during our research significant discounts on all EQC models. According to the blog "MB Passion," Mercedes-Benz offered up to a 24 percent discount on available stock vehicles. These are likely all sold out now.

Whether the new EQC models will retain the same name is still uncertain: It was once thought that the nearly finished EQC sedan would carry the abbreviation, and the SUV would then be named analogously as EQC SUV, but it could turn out differently: It might also become a GLC with EQ technology. The car is important for the brand in any case – it operates in the core segment of corporate car customers who find the EQB too practical and the EQE SUV too expensive.

What does it mean?

New models are always gladly announced, while the discontinuation of a series without replacement, especially among German car manufacturers with their recently steadily growing programs, is still considered a "weakness." This is why the EQC quietly and discreetly phased out over a year ago. Initially without a direct successor – but one is in the works.
