Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G: Test operation in the heights of South Tyrol

In truly winter conditions, with sub-zero temperatures and plenty of snow, a Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G completed its test route on the line of the South Tyrolean bus company Silbernagl between the locations Compatsch (1,850 m) and Saltria (1,680 m) on the Seiser Alm. Equipped with solid-state batteries and a capacity of 441 kWh, the articulated electric bus demonstrated "stability, traction, and performance with two driven axles," according to information from Daimler.

“The first test of an 18-meter electric bus at these altitudes, almost 2,000 meters on the Seiser Alm – this is a great moment for us in South Tyrol,” said Daniel Alfreider, Deputy Governor and State Councillor in South Tyrol's government, responsible for infrastructure and mobility, among other things.

Alfreider is an advocate for emission-free mobility in South Tyrol. The participating bus company Silbernagl also drew a positive conclusion from the test run.

“For us, the 18-meter long vehicles with 6x4 drive are very interesting. We are confident that we will be able to integrate them into our bus fleet in the coming years,” said Carlo Greco, General Director of the family business founded in 1978 by Anton and Monika Silbernagl, based in Kastelruth/South Tyrol.
