The Bremer Straßenbahnen AG (BSAG) is relying on Mercedes-Benz eCitaro to build its electric fleet. On December 17, the transport company of the Hanseatic city added five solo buses of the electric variant to its fleet – an additional 15 eCitaro and 24 Citaro G hybrid buses were ordered on the same day.

Details

The three-door electric low-floor buses are fully air-conditioned and equipped with fabric-covered seats (City Star Eco) produced in-house by Daimler Buses. Different upholstery colors in grey and red as well as interior walls with needle-felt covering create a homely atmosphere inside.

In addition, the electric buses are equipped with a wheelchair lift at door one, two special usage areas for wheelchairs and strollers, and side folding seats at the height of door two. The turning assistant Sideguard Assist ensures greater safety.

On board the five eCitaros are solid-state batteries with a capacity of 441 kWh. Two charging sockets on the left and right sides of the vehicle increase flexibility during refueling at the depot.

The Follow-up Order

Following the handover of the five eCitaros, the BSAG signed another order for an additional 15 eCitaro buses along with the charging infrastructure, which are to be delivered with identical equipment during the course of 2022.

In addition, the Bremen-based transport company ordered 24 Citaro G hybrid buses, which according to Daimler comply with the Euro 6 E emission standard valid from 2022 and are intended to provide transport companies with a sensible transition from combustion engines to electromobility with city buses.

BSAG Climate Protection Strategy

Bremer Straßenbahnen AG ensures the mobility of the Hanseatic city's residents with nearly 350 buses and trams in public transport. It transports almost 300,000 passengers daily. The bus network covers more than 40 routes with a total length of around 500 kilometers.

At the end of 2019, the transport company formulated its ambitious climate protection strategy – by 2025, BSAG aims to make its operational performance 50% climate neutral. Already, the electricity used comes from hydropower and wind energy.

Fossil fuels and the resulting emissions are compensated by BSAG through participation in climate protection projects.
