Mercedes-Benz: 22 Millionth Star is an Electric Vehicle
The 22 millionth Mercedes-Benz vehicle is an EQS 580 4MATIC, which just rolled off the production line at Factory 56 in Sindelfingen. This production milestone is not only a significant achievement for Sindelfingen but also a symbol of the successful production of upper and luxury class vehicles at the Mercedes-Benz plant, which opened in 1915 and has developed into a center of excellence for the production of high-quality vehicles since records began in 1946, the manufacturer rejoices. The milestone of 22 million vehicles is seen as the peak of a phase of steady growth for Sindelfingen since the resumption of car production in 1946.
S-Class still outsells EQS fourfold
In Factory 56, in addition to the EQS, all variants of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, including Hybrid and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, roll off the line. The E-Class, GLC, CLS, S-Class Guard, and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door models are also produced in Sindelfingen. New models and drive variants are quickly integrated into the ongoing line, demonstrating the high flexibility and efficiency of Factory 56. In 2022, S-Class deliveries increased to over 90,000 units, a 5 percent increase compared to the previous year. In addition, the EQS attracted new customers to the top-end segment. In 2022, 19,200 units of this model were delivered to customers, driven by strong demand in the USA, reported the Swabians.
"Flexible, digital, efficient, and sustainable: Sindelfingen is and remains our center of excellence for upper and luxury-class vehicles in the global production network. It looks back on an impressive history and is simultaneously well-positioned for the future: The lead plant in the top-end luxury segment will produce models of the fully electric AMG EA platform from 2025," announced Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Production and Supply Chain Management.
The manufacturer has been producing CO2-neutral in all its plants worldwide since 2022. The electricity comes exclusively from renewable energies. Additionally, the company aims to increase the generation of renewable energy at its sites. Factory 56 in Sindelfingen relies on environmentally and resource-friendly production: A photovoltaic system on the roof provides the hall with self-generated, green electricity. Over 12,000 modules generate around 5,000 kWp of power. This covers about 30 percent of Factory 56's annual electricity needs. By the end of 2024, further expansion of photovoltaics at the entire Sindelfingen site will be invested in. Another focus at the Sindelfingen site is the continuous reduction of water consumption and waste generation.
