Mer sets up charging infrastructure for Mewa electric fleet

The charging solution specialist is creating the infrastructure for the Mewa fleet at the pilot site in Groß-Kienitz. Installation of twelve DC and AC charging points for the truck and car company fleet. Charging is done with 100 percent green electricity. Technology comes from alpitronic and KEBA. Additionally, there is a cooperation with generation E.

The charging solution specialist Mer Germany GmbH has implemented the charging infrastructure for the fleet of MEWA Textil-Service Management in a pilot project. It is stated that the aim is to jointly advance the electrification of the fleet. The subsidiary of the Norwegian state-owned company Statkraft took over the installation as well as service and billing at the new project site in Groß Kienitz. Since 2020, the company has been working with Mer Germany in the field of sustainable mobility, which, among other things, equipped the company's headquarters in Wiesbaden with modern charging infrastructure.

With the latest pilot project for the Groß Kienitz site near Berlin, Mewa is now taking the next step to build the necessary charging infrastructure for its own electric truck fleet, according to the provider. The installation of the charging stations, including the required civil engineering and electrical installation work, as well as the subsequent operation and maintenance, was carried out by the charging solution specialist in cooperation with generation E GmbH. A total of twelve new charging points for electric trucks and electric passenger cars were implemented on the site. Six AC wallboxes of the type KEBA P30 were used for the local passenger car fleet and employees' vehicles, as well as three models of the DC Hypercharger 300-2 from alpitronic for adequately fast charging of the existing electric trucks.

Green Electricity is Mandatory

As with all Mewa locations, the supply of emissions-free electricity was a crucial aspect in the implementation at Groß Kienitz. The charging stations are therefore supplied with 100 percent green electricity from Mer. The project was preceded by intensive planning to coordinate the necessary excavation work with the local factory operations. Additionally, a dynamic load management concept was developed for the factory's electrical grid to avoid load peaks and thus contribute to a smooth operation, ensuring the supply of trucks at all times. Mer provides corresponding information about the consumed load and charging quantities, as well as the status of the depot charging infrastructure through a cloud-based portal.

"Thanks to the good cooperation of all project participants, we were able to complete this exciting and challenging project within the specified timeframe and always resolve tricky situations quickly and result-oriented," explained Gero Kretschmar, the project manager for charging infrastructure at Mer.

To be able to operate a large vehicle fleet electrically in the future, sufficient charging infrastructure is first required at our locations, explains Martin Mühling, Head of Distribution Logistics at Mewa. He now intends to gain experience with the existing charging infrastructure at the Groß-Kienitz location and, on this basis, deliver the sustainable textile service to customers with significantly lower emissions in the future. Mewa sees itself as one of the pioneers for sustainable textile service in Europe, placing special focus on energy efficiency and resource conservation. The reduction of energy-intensive work steps and the switch to alternative drive technologies are important pillars of the sustainability strategy, according to the provider.
