The bus manufacturer Mellor, based in Rochdale, northern England, has presented its Sigma range at the UTAC test facility in Millbrook. It includes six models with overall lengths from 7 to 12 meters, 30 to 80 passenger seats, specifications for city and intercity traffic, and configurations for vehicle width and passenger doors to expand the range to over 20 individual variants. The result is one of the largest series of low-floor battery-electric buses ever offered in Europe. The first 7- and 10-meter models are already available for order.
Lightweight Construction
The unique feature of the Sigma is its lightweight construction, which allows for lower energy consumption and thus smaller battery capacities. In collaboration with industry-leading component manufacturers – including battery manufacturers CATL, Webasto, ZF, Dana, and Ventura – the model will receive full EU type approval. With a three-year vehicle warranty, an eight-year battery warranty, and a 15-year structural warranty, Sigma offers a complete package with low total operating costs.
Six Sigma Models
With the Sigma range, Mellor aims to secure a firm place in the midibus sector and serve the BEV markets in the UK and overseas. Customers who place an order today can expect to receive their vehicles by early summer 2022. Four more models, including 8-, 9-, 11-, and 12-meter variants, will be gradually introduced throughout 2022, with deliveries to customers also occurring in the same period.
We firmly believe that Sigma represents a redefinition of the offering of zero-emission buses. (Mark Clissett, Managing Director of Mellor's Bus Division)
