The German subsidiary Maxomotive of the Chinese automobile manufacturer SAIC, based in Cologne, has, as announced in 2021, expanded its portfolio of transporters in Germany as well, touting a comparatively affordable entry into the electric fleet. The two models, eDeliver3 and eDeliver9, are positioned in the classic 3.0- and 3.5-ton segments.

The eDeliver3 comes in two lengths of 4.55 and 5.14 meters, with a compact height of 1.90 meters and a slim width of 1.78 meters. Nevertheless, the transporter, available only as an electric model, is supposed to carry 4.8 and 6.3 cubic meters of cargo in a square-shaped cargo compartment. The van starts at 37,990 euros net with a 50 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which, thanks to the good efficiency of the 90 kW synchronous motor with 255 Nm of torque in the front-wheel-drive, is supposed to be sufficient for 238 kilometers WLTP combined and 371 kilometers WLTP City.

Charging is done via the front flap with 7.2 kW in AC within eight hours from 5 to 100 percent. In DC, it takes 45 minutes to charge from 5 to 80 percent. The payload of the relatively light BEV, limited to 120 km/h and weighing 2.5 and 2.6 tons, is 830 and 855 kilograms, with a towing capacity of one ton. Passive safety features include ESP and a brake assistant. Even in the base version, the compact electric vehicle is fully equipped, with features such as automatic climate control, infotainment, rearview camera, parking assistance, or cruise control.

Fast charger on board and up to 350 kilometers range

The larger sibling, eDeliver9, is available not only as the main electric model but also as a diesel version with a 2.0-liter Euro VI engine (148 hp/375 Nm) with either front- or rear-wheel drive. The diesel version starts at 34,490 euros, while the electric model rolls in at a pretty complete basic configuration from 56,490 euros, with a 52 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The battery updates to 72 or 89 kWh cost an additional 8,000 euros each, extending the range from 186 to 236 and 296 kilometers WLTP combined, and 237, 288, and 353 kilometers WLTP City.

Energy recovery is ensured by a three-stage recuperation, and there is also an eco-mode. Charging here is done with 11 kW in AC, from 5 to 100 percent in six to nine hours, and in DC from 20 to 80 percent in half to three-quarters of an hour. The onboard charger is supposed to draw a range of 100 kilometers in ten minutes. A 150 kW strong electric synchronous motor with 310 Nm torque provides propulsion to the front axle. The top speed for the E-version is 100 km/h.

More Payload with the 4.0-Ton Model

The 89-kWh version is also available as an upgraded variant with a total weight of 4.05 tons for better payload capacity, at an additional cost of 1,500 euros. The standard towing capacity is a solid 1,500 kilograms for an e-van, with payload capacities ranging between 725 and 1,175 kilograms. The also available chassis version comes with a 65-kWh battery, with a towing capacity of 1,200 kilograms. The panel van is available in two lengths and two roof heights: 5.54 or 5.94 meters in length, with a width of 2.06 meters and a height of 2.52 or 2.73 meters. The loading volume is then 9.7, eleven, and 12.5 cubic meters.

Complete Basic Equipment, Good Safety Level

In terms of safety systems, the eDeliver9 comes with more features as standard, including ESP, a distance warning system, an acoustic lane departure warning from L3H2, as well as an automatic emergency brake, lane change assistant, blind spot warning, and six airbags. The comfort features include a 10" infotainment system, a rearview camera, front and rear LED lights, a keyless-go system, air conditioning, cruise control, a double passenger seat, light and rain sensors, electrically adjustable and heated mirrors. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, AEBS, a lane departure warning system, seat heating, and a digital radio.

The manufacturer provides a five-year warranty on the vehicle up to 100,000 kilometers, and an eight-year warranty on the battery up to 160,000 kilometers. For the eDeliver3, the full electric bonus of 9,000 euros applies, and for the eDeliver9, the bonus is 7,500 euros. Meanwhile, the dealer network of the ambitious brand is growing and is currently quite strong, especially in the Rhine-Main area and the southwest. There are now also representatives in Munich, Ingolstadt, and Augsburg, as well as in Hanover, Hamburg, and Berlin. They are reportedly still looking for more partners.
