Maserati Folgore: Gran Turismo and Grecale as pure electric cars

Maserati is becoming more concrete regarding its electric cars and is presenting the plans for the market launch of the Folgore model program and explaining the sales figures for 2021. Compared to the previous year, a robust sales growth of 41 percent was achieved with a total of 24,269 vehicles sold to customers worldwide. According to Maserati, the adjusted operating margin was rather thin at 5.1 percent, and net sales amounted to 2.021 billion euros.

The strategy of “Folgore,” as Maserati calls its electrification, was developed considering customer requirements. The new GranTurismo will be the first car in Maserati's history to use 100 percent electric solutions. Manufactured at the Mirafiori production center, it is set to hit the market in 2023.

The new GranTurismo will offer state-of-the-art technical solutions from Formula E, excellent performance, comfort, and elegance—all typical features of the brand—that also characterized its predecessors. Visually, the Gran Turismo remains rather conservative and close to its combustion-engine predecessor. Additionally, the Grecale SUV, derived from the Alfa Stelvio, will also be available in an electric version in the future.

By 2025, all Maserati models will be available in a fully electric version: the super sports car MC20, the future Quattroporte, and the new Levante. By 2030, the entire Maserati model range will be fully electric. The Ghibli, on the other hand, is expected to be discontinued.

All new Maserati models will be 100 percent developed, designed, and produced in Italy.

What does this mean?

Maserati remains remarkably evolutionary and purely Italian, but now it is very consistently electrifying. One can be excited about the details. The Grecale is likely to replace the Ghibli as the entry-level model.
