Scandinavia's largest bus operator, Nobina Sverige AB, has ordered 22 MAN Lion's City 12 E. It is the first transport company in Scandinavia to use the electric bus from Munich. At the same time, this marks MAN’s largest e-bus order outside Germany. Rudi Kuchta, Head of Business Unit Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, states:
"Following the order from VHH for 17 MAN Lion’s City E, this is another major order for our electric buses. This clearly demonstrates the high international interest in innovative and forward-looking drive technology."
The city buses are to be delivered in May next year. They will begin operation in Malmö in mid-June 2021.
480-kWh battery pack
The installed battery capacity of 480 kWh in the 12-meter solo bus, paired with Nobina’s planning and operational concepts, is intended to ensure reliable and efficient daily use of the electric buses in and around Malmö.
Together with the local Public Transport Authority Skånetrafiken, we are consistently pursuing our path towards zero emissions in operation. Expanding our bus fleet in Malmö with 22 MAN Lion’s City E is an important milestone to achieve our goals. (Jens Råsten, Fleet Manager at Nobina Group)
88 passengers
Up to 88 passengers can be transported in the Lion‘s City 12 E. The electric bus offers four additional seats in the rear. With around 7,600 employees and a turnover of 840 million euros, Nobina is the largest bus operator in Northern Europe. Every day, the company ensures that more than one million people reach their destinations using public transport in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. The bus fleet comprises around 3,700 vehicles – over 500 of which are from MAN.
What does this mean?
The topic of e-buses is gaining momentum, especially in public transport. More and more fleets are being converted to electric vehicles in this sector.
