The readers' choice "LOGISTRA best practice: Innovations 2024" has ended. The winners are the companies Anyline, BVL / GS1 Germany, Daimler Truck, Jungheinrich, Milence, Trailer Dynamics, Sparck Technologies, and Unitechnik Systems.

"With their votes, LOGISTRA readers have made it clear how important the topics of digitalization, networking, and sustainability have become in logistics. However, efficiency still stands above all. Only when a solution is also economically viable does it find its place in modern supply chains," says Tobias Schweikl, Editor-in-Chief of LOGISTRA. "The entire LOGISTRA team congratulates the winners of the readers' choice."

Updated Categories

Because technical progress has changed logistics in the past two years since the last readers' choice in 2022, the categories have been updated this year. All solutions and products are now part of the eight mostly new categories "Digital Warehouse" (formerly AutoID), "AMR, Shuttles, Forklifts" (formerly Industrial Trucks), "Storage and Order Picking" (formerly Storage/Order Picking), "Vehicle Components" (formerly Vehicle Equipment), "Vehicles" (formerly Vehicles and Fleet), "Digital Fleet Solutions" (formerly Telematics and Navigation), "Trailers and Superstructures" (formerly Transport Safety), and "Packaging and Shipping".

Category "AMR, Shuttles, Forklifts"

The winner of the category "AMR, Shuttles, Forklifts" is Jungheinrich with the reach truck ETV 2i. The new lithium-ion trucks are developed for light to medium applications and were first presented at LogiMAT 2024. The main target group is customers with operational requirements of around five operating hours per day or less. A completely new drive system was developed for the new reach truck generation. This includes a new driving motor, gearbox, and drive wheel as well as a new converter generation developed by Jungheinrich itself. Thanks to the space-saving lithium-ion battery, the footwell plate including the driver's stand was lowered by 10 cm compared to its predecessors. For 2025, Jungheinrich announces the launch of the high-performance reach truck series ETV 3i for intensive applications with high lift heights and loads.

Category "Trailers and Superstructures"

The winner of the category "Trailers and Superstructures" is Trailer Dynamics with their "eTrailer". The semitrailer with an electric drive system supports the primary drive of the tractor unit. It is controlled via a sensor in the kingpin. The eTrailer can be combined with any truck through this in-house development. The battery capacity is offered modularly in sizes 187, 387, and 551 kWh and depends on the application. The electric axle in the trailer is continuously powered by two electric motors of 345 kW each and 552 kWp. In combination with a diesel semitrailer, consumption reductions of an average of 40% are achieved according to the manufacturer. In combination with a battery-electric semitrailer truck, Trailer Dynamics promises ranges of 700 to 800 km. At the IAA Transportation 2024, Trailer Dynamics also presented "Battery Swapping" for the eTrailer for the first time.

Category "Digital Fleet Solutions"

The winners of the category "Digital Fleet Solutions" are GS1 Germany and the German Logistics Association with the cloud platform "Cloud4Log". The two partners have created a solution that replaces a paper delivery note in practice with a digital solution. The drugstore chain dm is among the first participants and has already completed the rollout. All distribution centers at dm are now supplied by suppliers with digital delivery notes. The manual effort associated with handling transport papers in the form of filling in, handing over, transporting, scanning, and filing is eliminated. This summer, "Cloud4Log" released a new version. A key component of it is a self-service solution for drivers, which is intended to further simplify the goods receipt process for both drivers and receiving staff.

Category "Digital Warehouse"

The winner of the "Digital Warehouse" category is Anyline with software for drone inventory. As a provider of AI-supported mobile data capture, Anyline has developed a drone inventory management system that independently scans warehouses. The barcode scanning solution was developed by the software specialist in collaboration with packaging and paper company Mondi. Previously, Mondi relied on employees on forklifts and manual scanning to record inventory. This process required working at great heights and often overtime outside of warehouse hours, as only then was there enough space and additional safety measures could be adhered to. Therefore, inventory was often only feasible once a year. Today, a single employee can regularly scan the entire inventory in a warehouse with the drone during operating hours.

Category "Vehicles"

The winner of the "Vehicles" category is Daimler Truck with the new Mercedes-Benz eActros 600. The fully electric long-haul truck was named "International Truck of the Year 2025" by an expert jury of commercial vehicle journalists from 24 European countries at the IAA Transportation exhibition. In their reasoning, the jury particularly praised the technological overall concept of the heavy-duty long-haul truck. The aerodynamics of the new ProCabin driver's cab were also praised. Especially with battery-electric trucks in long-haul transport, improved aerodynamics are crucial, as air resistance is one of the main influential factors in energy consumption. For use in heavy-duty long-haul transport, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has developed a new 800 V e-axle with two electric motors and a four-speed transmission. The e-motors generate a continuous output of 400 kW and a peak output of 600 kW.

Category "Vehicle Components"

The winner of the "Vehicle Components" category is the joint venture Milence with its truck charging parks on highways. As a joint venture between Daimler Truck, the Traton Group, and the Volvo Group, Milence is pushing forward the expansion of charging infrastructure for e-trucks. The company recently opened a charging park in Varberg, Sweden. In Germany, the first two Milence charging parks are being built on the A9 in Vockerode, Saxony-Anhalt, between Berlin and Leipzig, as well as on the A4 at Hermsdorfer Kreuz in Thuringia. The charging parks are being constructed in phases. Phase 1 starts with CCS charging points, each with up to 400 kW of power. Phase 2 will introduce additional charging points and the integration of MCS technology (Megawatt Charging System) once it becomes available.

Category "Storage and Picking"

The winner of the "Storage and Picking" category is Unitechnik Systems with the AI Assistant "UniWare-AI". The AI-based tool was introduced at LogiMAT 2024. It aids in forecasting order workloads and bottlenecks in material flow. As a new feature of the warehouse management system "UniWare", it provides the warehouse manager with an intelligent assistant. Based on data from the logistics software, it can predict how many order items need to be processed in the coming days. The AI assistant also develops suggestions for the placement of items in the warehouse or evaluates the causes of disruptions to provide maintenance recommendations in the spirit of predictive maintenance.

Category "Packaging and Shipping"

The winner of the "Packaging and Shipping" category is Sparck Technologies. As a specialist in automated packaging solutions, the company has developed an automatic feeding function for its CVP packaging systems. The new feature is compatible via interfaces with driverless transport vehicles, sorting systems, conveyor belts, container tippers, cobots, robots, and manual operation. Previously, a warehouse employee placed the goods to be packaged on the belt so that a packaging carton could be cut, folded, sealed, glued, and labeled fully automatically.
