Leaseplan orders 500 Lightyear 2

As an international company with a presence in 29 countries, LeasePlan is a valuable partner for Lightyear: After starting the collaboration in 2018, when LeasePlan committed to co-distributing the Lightyear One in the EU market, this partnership is now being expanded. Therefore, the fleet of 1.8 million vehicles will be supplemented by 5,000 Lightyear Two vehicles starting in 2024/2025 – again with solar technology to increase efficiency.

This collaboration is one in a long line of partnerships announced in 2021. From NXP Semiconductors to Valmet Automotive, Bridgestone, and Sibros – many companies have confidence in the Dutch start-up. Lex Hoefsloot, Founder and CEO of Lightyear, stated:

“Today's announcement is a testament to LeasePlan's commitment to our product's vision of making clean mobility accessible to everyone. LeasePlan has been a leading voice emphasizing the need to transition to clean vehicles.”

What does this mean?

Lucky break: LeasePlan provides a cushion of orders for the model launch of the Lightyear 2, which is again expected to be one of the most efficient EVs on the market. The Lightyear One shown above already sets benchmarks here, but is only considered the "start" of the company – in small quantities. That is set to change from 2024 onwards.
