LeasePlan aims to reduce emissions to zero in its fleet with NewMotion by 2030
The subsidiary of the oil company Shell, NewMotion, has been selected as the official charging partner of the leasing and fleet management specialist LeasePlan in Europe. This is intended to contribute to the group's goal of operating more than half a million charging points by 2025. As part of the cooperation, NewMotion will provide the leasing provider's customers with charging solutions for electric vehicles at home, at the workplace, and on the go.
LeasePlan manages approximately 1.9 million vehicles in over 30 countries worldwide. As a founding member of EV100, the company claims to be an industry leader in the transition to emissions-free mobility. The aim is to operate its entire managed fleet with net-zero emissions by 2030, in accordance with the Paris Agreement. The Shell subsidiary supports LeasePlan with the installation of charging points and back-office technology for charge point management, as well as a charging card for access to public charging points.
Access to Charging Network and Apps
At the beginning of the year, the Dutch achieved an important milestone by expanding the network to 200,000 charging points in 35 European countries. LeasePlan customers would now have access to this network. The network also includes several hundred, and in the near future, as promised, several thousand ultra-fast charging points at Shell stations and other charging locations across Europe.
Leasing customers should also benefit from the NewMotion online tools, which provide real-time information on the availability and charging speeds at public charging points. As a bonus, LeasePlan drivers automatically receive reimbursement for all charging costs with NewMotion. The reimbursement is handled through the provider, which is meant to reduce the total operating costs for electric cars. For on-the-go charging, a joint charging card and app from LeasePlan and NewMotion is used.
"In the past ten years, more and more people have switched to electric vehicles, and companies are increasingly supporting this. To enable employers and their employees to make a seamless switch, companies need an ecosystem of intelligent charging solutions that allow them to monitor and manage charging processes," explains Melanie Lane, CEO of NewMotion.
In the first phase of the cooperation, customers in the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, and Sweden will benefit from the e-mobility offer, followed by other European markets.
