Lancia Ypsilon HF: Power for road and rally

In May 2025, the all-electric Lancia Ypsilon HF is set to hit the market. With its increased engine power of 177 kW compared to the base version, the vehicle accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. The model features a lowered body, a widened track, and a muscular design language inspired by the iconic sports cars from the brand's history.

The new Lancia Ypsilon HF is a harbinger of future high-performance vehicles from the brand, which will also carry the traditional HF designation. Future models Gamma and Delta are also planned to have HF versions.

Traditional HF Logo

The Lancia Ypsilon HF carries the historic emblem of the brand's most powerful models. The HF logo originated at the Geneva Motor Show in 1960. On the occasion of the exhibition, a club was formed whose members had to have purchased at least six Lancias. For this group, the letters stood for the English term High Fidelity, meaning "high loyalty."

The initials HF as a model designation appeared shortly thereafter for the first time on Lancia sports cars. In February 1963, Cesare Fiorio, along with some sports drivers and passionate owners of the brand's vehicles, founded a racing team called "HF Squadra Corse Lancia." The chosen logo consisted of the capital letters HF, white on a black background, with four red elephants as mascots. Below were the words "Squadra Corse" in white on a red background.

Legend has it that the elephant first appeared around Lancia in 1953. Allegedly, Gianni Lancia (1924-2014), son of the company's founder Vincenzo Lancia (1881-1937) and at that time the company's managing director, used an elephant as a lucky charm. The reason behind this choice is said to be the idea that elephants are unstoppable once they are on the move.

Lancia presented the HF logo in a modernized version in March 2024, which reinterprets the historic emblem.

The new Lancia Ypsilon Rally 4 HF

Lancia is also returning to rally sport. The basis for this is the new Ypsilon Rally 4 HF. The vehicle is powered by a 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engine with three cylinders, producing approximately 156 kW/212 hp. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential. With this technology, the Ypsilon Rally 4 HF fits perfectly into the so-called Rally4 category, a class widespread in international rally sport, especially for young drivers.

Lancia is one of the most successful brands of all time in the world of motorsport. The factory team and factory drivers have achieved a total of 15 titles in the World Rally Championship, as well as three manufacturer titles in the World Endurance Championship on the racetrack. Lancia also celebrated victories in the famous Mille Miglia and Targa Florio street races in Italy, as well as the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico.
