According to the announcement, the two companies share a long-standing partnership and the common belief that hydrogen is indispensable as an alternative propulsion technology in the commercial vehicle segment. As the "Preferred Partner" for the construction of Keyou vehicles, Paul has previously built the two prototype vehicles – the 18-ton truck and the 12-meter city bus – for Keyou and is currently tasked with building a 40-ton truck as part of the HyCET funding project. Furthermore, the Paul Group is responsible for the construction of the 18-ton trucks for Keyou's pioneer fleet "PF8," which is scheduled to start in November.

Expansion of Collaboration

The existing collaboration is now to be expanded to include the areas of service, qualification, and parts supply to better utilize the synergies from the different expertise and resources of the two companies. For this purpose, Keyou will now also rely on the Paul Group's partner network, which will be appropriately trained and made "H2 ready" by Paul. Keyou offers fleet operators an all-around care package, which not only includes a toll-free vehicle with a CO2-free hydrogen engine but also covers insurance, fuel, and a comprehensive service and maintenance offering.

"We are pleased to further intensify the partnership with Keyou," says Bernhard Wasner, CEO of the Paul Group. "The company is an important partner for us because we want to operate with an open approach to technology. In addition to battery-electric and fuel cell-electric trucks, other alternative propulsion systems remain relevant. We successfully combine the commonalities of the technologies in our after-sales services."

Advance Market Ramp-Up for H2 Commercial Vehicles and Buses

The goal of the increasingly close partnership is to provide a comprehensive service network in the long term, consisting of qualified workshops, appropriate training offerings, and an uninterrupted supply of spare parts. Additionally, the workshops will be equipped with the specialized tools required for conversions through the network.

“We have long relied on the extensive expertise of the Paul Group, which has already been a reliable and competent partner in the development of our prototype vehicles. The geographic proximity of our locations has always been an additional advantage for the collaboration,” explains Markus Schneider, COO at Keyou.

“For us, it was therefore the logical next step to expand the cooperation. Being able to rely on Paul's extensive partner network in the future is a significant gain for all parties involved,” summarizes Schneider.

40-Ton Truck with CO2-Free Hydrogen Engine

Currently, as part of the HyCET research project funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and led by BMW AG, Keyou is working together with consortium partners Deutz AG, DHL Freight GmbH, Total Energies Marketing Deutschland GmbH, and Volvo Group on the development and testing of a 40-ton truck with a 13-liter hydrogen combustion engine. After the planned completion in 2024, the road test is scheduled to start in 2025. The Paul Group will also handle the construction of the vehicle in this project.
