Karsan e-Atak: Europe's Market Leader in the E-Midi Segment
Karsan has been the undisputed leader in the sales of fully electric minibuses in Europe with the e-Jest for the past two years. Now, the Midi e-Atak has also reached the top of the 8 to 15-ton segment on the continent. It achieved a segment share of 30% in 2021. CEO Okan Baş explains:
"In Italy, we concluded a framework contract with Consip for 80 e-Atak units in 2021 and have already received the first eleven orders. Additionally, we were able to win the tender in Cagliari for the delivery of four units for the first time in Italy this year. In Germany, we delivered five vehicles to the city of Weilheim – the first sale to a municipal operator. Moreover, we are now represented in the Luxembourg market for the first time. With the driverless version of the e-Atak, we have started test drives at Michigan State University and in Norway to transport passengers under real traffic conditions."
Baş is accordingly optimistic about Karsan's future prospects in the field of electromobility and explains:
"With our electric range featuring models from 6 to 18 meters, we address the entire market. The cards are being reshuffled, and we will position the Karsan brand among the top five manufacturers in Europe with our vision of electric evolution – e-Volution. Our e-Atak model, the leader in the electric midibus class, is one of our most important products in this sense with its size, capacity, and technology."
Up to 300 km range
The e-Atak is powered by BMW batteries with a capacity of 220 kWh. With its 230-kW electric motor, a length of 8.3 meters, a capacity of 52 passengers, and a range of up to 300 km, the model is a pioneer in its segment. The e-Atak, equipped with autonomous technology, can be charged within five hours with AC chargers and in three hours with fast chargers.
What does this mean?
The Karsan-BMW connection has existed for a while and has also been successful product-wise in the electric minibus sector. No wonder that BMW also prefers to use Karsan for drives in Munich.
