Juice lowers prices for portable wall boxes
Between the lines, Christoph Erni, founder and CEO of Juice Technology, has already announced it: The development of the wallbox market will be followed by consolidation and this on multiple levels: Apart from the technology and the fulfillment of all standards, pricing will also be an issue. This is why Erni had an eye on this and can now react counter-cyclically despite rising prices everywhere:
“We are pleased that we can already reduce the prices for our smart wallbox Juice Booster 3 air, which has been extremely popular since its launch. We can also bring the RRP of the popular Juice Booster 2 back down to its old price. Due to high demand and the ability to produce more wallboxes at once, we were able to increase the production volume and correspondingly reduce production costs. We achieved this without having to compromise on quality.”
Reliable suppliers and a clever purchasing strategy
Thanks to good supplier relationships and a smart purchasing strategy, Juice was able to procure semiconductor components and produce devices even during the supply chain crisis. The successful product for maximum flexibility in charging, the Juice Booster 2, was joined in October 2022 by the smart portable wallbox Juice Booster 3 air.
E-mobility will continue to grow – as will the demand for charging technology
And Juice remains optimistic about the future and registration numbers: E-mobility is crisis-resistant and growing unimpeded. Electric cars are more in demand than ever before. One in ten cars on Europe's roads was fully electric at the beginning of 2022. Significant increases in registration numbers in the fourth quarter are indicative of an upward trend. The number of new registrations in Germany in December 2022 was 40 percent higher than in the same month of the previous year – despite persistently high energy prices. At the same time, the numbers are declining for all other drive types. The demand for e-cars is unbroken, as is the need for flexible charging options. Juice also wants to further reduce the hurdles for switching. Erni adds:
“With our flexible wallboxes, which combine several devices – stationary wallbox, mobile charger, and Mode 3 charging cable – in one, we want to make a maximum of functionality and quality accessible to everyone. That's why we decided to pass the cost savings we achieved from reducing production costs directly on to our customers.”
The Juice Booster 3 air is now available for a gross price of CHF/EUR 1,299 (instead of CHF/EUR 1,499), and the Juice Booster 2 for a gross price of CHF/EUR 999 (instead of CHF/EUR 1,099).
Both packages include, in addition to the charger itself, two adapters (CEE 16 red plus country-specific household plug), two RFID cards, and a soft case with Velcro strips for secure storage in the trunk.
What does this mean?
The charging infrastructure market is undergoing consolidation: While new providers are still entering, some of the initial ones are already disappearing or merging with other companies. What is clear is that quality products are likely to stabilize at around 1,000 euros – for prices above 1,500 euros, the air becomes thin for AC chargers. Juice is responding by trying to maintain this price level through innovative design tweaks and a long-term procurement strategy, without compromising on Swiss quality.
