Jeep: New Renegade for under $25,000

Jeep is planning a massive expansion of its portfolio: In the future, it will range from the A to the F segment, with the largest vehicles in the E and F segments likely reserved for the USA.

At the investor day, Stellantis presented slides showing that the Jeep brand aims to increase its market coverage from 45% to 85% by 2027. This includes a new Renegade (finally) and the possible return of the Cherokee as a "Midsize UV." Additionally, they showcased an electric Wagoneer S as a hardcore Trailhawk. The most exciting development, however, will be the Renegade successor, which is expected to utilize the new Stellantis base platform, also used by the Fiat Panda and Opel Frontera. With this platform, the Renegade is expected to start at under $25,000, with the electric version potentially costing around $35,000. Currently, the price list in Germany starts at €31,100.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stated back in May that he intends to offer a fully electric Jeep vehicle for $25,000 in the U.S. very soon. This move is aimed at better appealing to mainstream customers at a time when the acceptance of electric vehicles is significantly impeded. Jeep has the foundation, as Tavares explained:

"In the same way we launched the Citroen e-C3 for €20,000, you will very soon see a Jeep for $25,000."

This clearly indicates that Stellantis intends to utilize its base platform as broadly as possible. Tavares added:

"We are using the same know-how because we are a global company, and this is completely fluid in the technical world of Stellantis."

It's likely that Jeep will borrow the propulsion and body structure from the Opel Frontera, as was done with the Lancia Y, which houses the Opel Corsa underneath its exterior. With new exterior panels, a unique interior, and its own tuning, the Frontera could be easily and quickly transformed into a Renegade. In the U.S., the electric Wagoneer S and Recon will also be introduced. Jeep has already presented a hardcore Trailhawk version of the former to demonstrate what a truly off-road capable Wagoneer S would look like: equipped with washable vegan "leather," roof rails, and a raised suspension with all-terrain tires.

Interestingly, Tavares still believes that the cost parity between fully electric vehicles and internal combustion engine vehicles within the company can be achieved in the next "maximum three years," also to prepare for the – so far absent – "China invasion" of affordable electric vehicles.

Jeep matches Tavares' assessment, in which he stated:

"We are in a storm, and this storm will last for a few more years."

Cherokee, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and the classic Wrangler will be facelifted, and the Compass will also be refreshed by 2027. However, it is likely to receive the "higher-value" platform compared to the Renegade. The future "Cherokee" UV is expected to use STLA Medium.

What does this mean?

Jeep is also fully utilizing the Stellantis platforms and is likely to exploit them as the only brand in the group from the A to the F(!)-segment. Here we are talking about the then 5.7-meter long Grand Wagoneer.
