Jaguar I-Pace: Design update for the new model year
Since its debut, the Jaguar I-Pace has won more than 90 awards worldwide – including a triple win in 2019 at the World Car of the Year Awards, where it topped the podium in World Car Design of the Year, World Green Car, and World Car of the Year. As one of the first all-electric performance SUVs, it set the bar high.
Low center of gravity and all-wheel drive
With its low center of gravity, advanced chassis technology, and compact electric motors on both axles, the I-Pace still offers an excellent balance of fully electric all-wheel drive performance and everyday comfort. Thanks to seamless over-the-air updates, vehicle technologies and functions have been continuously improved – and will continue to be in the future.
"The I-PACE has always offered what customers expect from a Jaguar: a comprehensive package of performance, agility, technology, and practicality – combined with a smooth, quiet, and effortless electric driving experience," explains Nick Collins, Director of Jaguar Vehicle Programs. "For the new model year, we stay true to this approach and add selected rich equipment options to the all-electric performance SUV."
Refined Exterior Design
With its radical cab-forward profile, short overhangs, and taut, muscular hips, the I-Pace is immediately recognizable and distinctly different from other all-electric SUVs. Now, Jaguar has further developed the award-winning design with careful enhancements and refinements aimed at providing even more presence.
The redesigned front grille with the black-silver Jaguar emblem no longer features the previous gloss black diamond pattern but instead showcases a smooth, closed form in Atlas Grey. The vertical trims on the sides of the lower air intakes are also finished in Atlas Grey. The trims of the front bumper, the lower door trims, and the rear diffuser are now executed in body color instead of glossy black. To emphasize the dynamic character and power potential, all I-Pace models with 22-inch wheels now feature a subtle rear spoiler on the tailgate.
The standard Black Pack complements the design update of the I-Pace MY24 with a glossy black surround for the front grille, window surrounds, exterior mirror caps, and rear badges. The panoramic roof is now optionally available in a contrast paint finish. Matching the curved glass, the rear section of the roof — previously in body color — is also executed in black.
Satin Finishes
For the first time, customers can opt for a satin finish for their I-Pace. These surfaces, available in Eiger Grey or the new Carpathian Grey, give the vehicle an elegant, contemporary look. The standard wheels offered for the electric vehicle are now all diamond-turned. Standing out from the wheel range is the 22-inch wheel with a satin grey finish and matching carbon inserts. All 22-inch wheels are optionally available with self-sealing all-season tires.
Electric Performance
Two electric motors integrated into the front and rear axles drive the I-Pace with a system performance of 294 kW (400 PS), and the maximum torque is 696 Nm. The two permanent magnet electric motors are very compact. In just 4.8 seconds, the all-electric performance SUV sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h and reaches a top speed of 200 km/h.
Along with the low center of gravity and the comparatively light yet stiff aluminum body structure, the advanced double wishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension form the basis for its dynamic capabilities. The optional air suspension with electronically controlled damping Adaptive Dynamics further enhances ride and handling.
Range and Charging Options
The 90 kW lithium-ion battery with 432 pouch cells allows the I-Pace to achieve a still rather moderate range of up to 469 kilometers (WLTP cycle). When charging via the steadily growing network of public charging points, 100 kW fast-charging stations provide enough energy for a range of up to 127 kilometers in 15 minutes. Customers can set the charging process to stop when the battery reaches a certain charge level – for example, 80 percent. Charging from zero to 80 percent takes 40 minutes.
With a three-phase 11 kW wall box, up to 53 kilometers can be added per hour; a full charge takes around eight and a half hours. Preconditioning is another technology aimed at enhancing the driving experience with the I-Pace.
Fully Connected - Infotainment and Over-the-Air Updates
High-resolution HD displays, touchscreens, touch-sensitive buttons, and multifunctional rotary controllers with haptic feedback are designed to create a highly intuitive user experience. The Pivi Pro infotainment system offers seamless connectivity through wireless Apple CarPlay, Wireless Android Auto, integrated Alexa voice control, Spotify, and what3words navigation. Thanks to over-the-air updates, Pivi Pro – along with other systems throughout the vehicle – is always up to date.
The 2024 model year Jaguar I-Pace can now be ordered in Germany. Prices start at 92,400 Euros for the I-Pace EV400 R-Dynamic SE.
What does that mean?
Comfortable, sporty, and elegant - the I-Pace is actually the perfect Jaguar. It's a pity that the British haven't improved on the moderate range, the charging performance, and especially the efficiency. An energy consumption of 25.2 kWh/100 km combined (WLTP) is simply far too high.
