The city and intercity bus Iveco Crossway is going electric and is set to be unveiled later this year. The first deliveries of the electric version, Crossway Low Entry (LE) Electric, are already planned for the coming year. Microvast and its partner FPT Industrial, part of the Iveco Group, are responsible for the complete battery system – based on an agreement from 2019 for industrial and commercial cooperation between the two companies.

The electric version of the Crossway will feature a high-energy-density battery pack with a capacity of 400 to 466 kWh, developed by Microvast. According to the battery manufacturer, which relocated its European headquarters from Frankfurt/Main to Ludwigsfelde, Brandenburg earlier last year, battery cells and modules from all Microvast production sites worldwide will be supplied – in accordance with FPT Industrial's project requirements. The battery packs will then be assembled at FPT Industrial's Turin plant. The battery life is stated to be up to ten years.

Iveco Crossway LE Electric follows e-Daily

Both companies describe their collaboration on the Crossway LE Electric as an important step on their joint "electrification journey." This complements the joint project of the new Iveco e-Daily, which is set to be launched by the end of 2022. The new electric Daily will feature a modular battery concept with 1 to 3 batteries with capacities ranging from 37 to 111 kWh.

"Our new generation of battery packs with high-energy cells sets a new standard for energy density at the pack level," says Sascha Kelterborn, Chief Revenue Officer, Microvast Holdings, Inc.

Microvast works closely with partners in the commercial vehicle industry and is committed to driving the electrification of commercial vehicles with market-leading battery technologies. The successful collaboration with FPT Industrial clearly shows that they are on the right track. FPT Industrial also assesses the collaboration similarly:

"In this rapidly developing sector, FPT Industrial is committed to forming targeted partnerships to provide advanced alternatives to conventional fuels, thereby accelerating our journey toward a sustainable, CO2-neutral future," says Sylvain Blaise, President, Powertrain Business Unit of the Iveco Group.

The collaboration with Microvast underscores FTP Industrial's commitment to becoming a technologically leading provider of multi-power drivetrains, giving the company competitive advantages in the market, says Blaise.
